Cob Canopy Centre

Project details

Programme
Unit Unit 8
Year 4

A forestry teaching centre at the Centre for Alternative Technology, Wales, designed around horse logging as a low-impact alternative to mechanised timber extraction. The canopy roof gathers stables, workshops, classrooms and a demonstration arena beneath one form, connecting visitors directly with woodland management, working horses and sustainable craft.

The ground floor plan brings together stables, teaching spaces, workshop areas, café and a central demonstration arena, allowing visitors to learn directly from the relationship between horses, forestry and sustainable woodland management.

Early design studies explored the relationship between horse dimensions, human scale and natural proportional systems. The golden ratio and segmented shell geometries were used as references for the design logic.
